Sky has launched Sky Sports for the Apple TV set top box within the Now TV app.
Although the Now TV app has gone live on Apple TV boxes, you’ll only be able to access Sky Sports for the time being.
The Now TV app offers you a Sky Sports Day Pass for 24-hours of unlimited access to Sky’s six sports channels.
This Sky Sports Day Pass costs £9.99, which can be billed directly to the iTunes account associated with your Apple TV.
Now TV was originally launched on Android, Mac and PC in March 2012 as a movie streaming service. Since then, Sky has introduced Now TV to additional platforms like iOS, PS3, Xbox 360 and YouView, not to mention its own Now TV Box.
Sky also offers entertainment and movies alongside Sky Sports on these platforms.
The lack of Sky Entertainment and Movie packages on Apple TV will be a huge disappointment to some Apple TV owners.
We’ve asked Sky what the future plans are for their inclusion, but have received no reply at the time of writing.
However, a forum thread on the Now TV site suggests that we could be in for a fairly long wait.
“Although we are able to offer AirPlay and HDMI mirroring for Sky Sports on Now TV, due to our licenses, we don’t currently support this for Sky Movies,” said a Sky forum moderator in September. “We are working on this, so please keep checking for updates on our site or on our Community.”
